The Ravello Center and the State High School “Marini-Gioia-Comite” of Amalfi are carrying out an educational path on the theme “Policy Brief on the impact of climate change on intangible heritage: awareness raising in schools” to verify the level of awareness of adolescents on the relationship between climate change and intangible heritage, also with reference to the recommendations proposed by the Policy Brief produced in Ravello. Teachers of the “Marini-Gioia-Comite” specifically trained by CUEBC have planned educational activities to convey to students notions and concepts at the basis of a correct protection and enhancement of the cultural heritage of their territory. The goal is to generate awareness in students and, indirectly, in all the inhabitants of the Amalfi Coast territory on the relationship between climate change and intangible cultural heritage to help create a critical and active local community. A first result of this collaboration materialized on Saturday 8 March: the Marini-Gioia-Comite Institute, and in particular Professors Vittoria Barbato, Antonio Romano and Maria Carla Sorrentino, organized, at the Maiori headquarters, a conference entitled “Discover, respect, protect: the ‘Divine Coast’ a heritage of nature and flavors to be passed down” in the presence of two final year classes of the Institute.
Salvatore Aceto, an agricultural entrepreneur from Amalfi (already a participant in the GreenHeritage Policy Round Table organized in Ravello last year), spoke about the role of heroic agriculture in safeguarding the Amalfi Coast. The Association “Hiking the Amalfi Coast” then illustrated the importance of the coastal trails as a sustainable alternative to discover the territory and reduce the impact of mass tourism. Their speech, entitled “An alternative path: sustainability”, highlighted good practices for experiencing the Coast in harmony with the environment. The Association, which carries out its activity on a voluntary basis and is composed almost exclusively of young people, emphasized that their action represents a dutiful assumption of responsibility by members of the local community towards their territory. And this was an important message conveyed to the young people present in the room.
